Who am I?
My name is Kim Andersen. I am a Game Designer living in the Copenhagen area of Denmark. When creating games, my passion lies in creating game worlds and experiences that players find enjoyable. My dream game project if I had complete control would be in a quirky and whimsical story involving music as a gameplay element.
Masters Degree in Games - Design from ITU Copenhagen.
Bachelors Degree in Digital Media and Interactive Technologies from ITU Copenhagen.
Game-feel focused and holistic approach to game design.
Tools include: Unreal Engine, Unity, Figma, Miro, pen & paper, FMOD, Reaper, Audacity.
Hobbies/interests include writing music, Jim Henson puppetry and animation.
I am fascinated by worlds like the ones in the Psychonauts games and Tearaway and would love to be part of creating experiences like those.
I have always had a curiosity for knowledge and wanting to be part of telling stories. This has led me through different attempts at creativity, some more successful than others, and resulted in me picking up a few lasting interests and hobbies along the way. To this day I am still very fascinated by the universes Jim Henson led the creation of such as The Muppets, Lost Crystal, Fraggle Rock and the likes. I still dabble at writing music, and I will forever have a soft spot for the way animation and games can tell stories that other media can only sometimes dream of. Amongst my arguably less creative hobbies, I do tend to try and get around to playing board and card games as time allows, and play Magic the Gathering still, more than 20 years after I first picked up some cards. I have also gotten into 3D printing as a hobby and begun prototyping a board game.
When it comes to games and game design, as cliché as it sounds, I do see myself as an advocate for the player. I try to keep in mind the story we are trying to tell, the setting it happens in, and how the player might experience it as a whole. It also means that gameplay and game-feel both have a high priority and focus for me. I believe that part of a good game-feel includes all parts of the game working together as a whole, and thus I like to view gamemaking in a holistic way. This is also what fascinates me with the game designer position in a team, as this to me is where I can be a connecting point for the different departments, be it art, sound, programming, and so on. As for the type of games I would most like to work on, those include the type of games that have given me the best experiences, 3D platformer collectathons and point n click adventure games.
Some of my favorite games, both digital and analog:
Psychonauts, both 1 and 2.
No Straight Roads
Monkey Island, all of them.
Magic the Gathering.
Ticket to Ride.
