Shmups

During the first semester, autumn 2021, at the MSc in Games at ITU, the task for the exam was to create a clone/tribute of a game during the course ‘Programming for Designers’, in which we programmed using Processing. The game had to be an old Atari game or the likes and I chose to create my own little tribute to shoot’em ups in the style of the game ‘1942’

The programming itself took me 4-5 weeks and a playable version can be found at:

(Disclaimer: Only tested on Windows so far)

Lessons learned

I am not the best at programming. But I did manage to get the highest grade possible for this project and enough interest in wanting to at least learn some visual scripting (unity) and/or blueprint (unreal) to better be able to make prototypes for testing without having to be too dependent on a programmer.

I also learned that it is possible for me to carry the solo production of a game, albeit an extremely small one in this case, through to the end.
